New Greek Energy Minister to Revive Helliniko and Skouries Projects

Energy and Environment Minister, Costis Hatzidakis

The new government’s Energy and Environment Minister, Costis Hatzidakis, has said that two of Greece’s biggest investment projects that have been stalled or blocked for years, will be immediately revived.

The Helliniko privatization in coastal southeast Athens and the Skouries gold mine concession in northern Greece are among the ministry’s top priorities, he said.

Hatzidakis also referred to another “hot potato” his ministry inherited from the previous leftist SYRIZA government, namely, the recorded heavy financial losses of the state-run electricity utility, Public Power Corporation (PPC).

His ministry’s other priorities include the long-delayed connection of several islands with the mainland’s power grid and completing more natural gas infrastructure projects.
