Greek Mens and Women’s Water Polo Teams Advance to Quarterfinals in South Korea

Greece’s men’s water polo team advanced to the quarterfinals in the 2019 World Aquatics Championships held in South Korea on Sunday after beating the US team 11-9.

The Greek team was in top form on Sunday morning in Gwangju, working hard against a tough opponent, but they finally snatched victory in the last period.

The score in the four periods was: 3-4, 6-6, 8-8, 11-9.

After the US, Greece now must beat Italy on Tuesday to make it into the world water polo semifinals

Greek women’s team also among the world’s eight best

One day earlier, the Greek women’s water polo team beat China 12-8, also advancing to the semi-finals in the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.

Defense was the big weapon of the Greek squad, successfully keeping the Chinese players away from their net. The score for the four periods was: 4-1, 2-2, 4-4, 2-1.

The Greek women will go against the United States on Monday to qualify for the semi-finals.
