Greek Government Determined to Enforce Anti-Smoking Legislation Across the Country

The battle to improve citizens’ health by reducing smoking was the subject of a meeting chaired by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the participation of the country’s Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias and Deputy Health Minister Vassilis Kontozamanis.
During the meeting, the senior Greek officials talked about the actions which they propose  should be taken both immediately and in the future.
These actions have the lofty aim of reducing smoking in this country, which has had a long love affair with the habit.
This is a topic on which the Greek Prime Minister has personally placed great priority.
Based on the latest research, the Greek public opinion is seen as readier than ever to accept a ban on smoking indoors; this is something that has been already enacted in law but its enforcement has been notably absent.
It was decided at Wednesday’s meeting that Greek authorities will begin to enforce the anti-smoking laws immediately in all public buildings across the country, including the Greek Parliament and its ministries, as well as hospitals, schools and all other public services in general.
It was also decided at the meeting to launch a broad campaign to inform and raise citizens’ awareness of the law, in view of its universal application and enforcement which will take place in the coming months.
