EU Extends Post-Program Framework for Greece; Discontinues "Mission Chief" Position

The European Commission announced on Friday that the post-program framework for Greece will be continued for an additional period of six months.
The Commission stated, ”This extension is a normal and expected process that serves to ensure continued support for the completion, delivery and implementation of reforms agreed under Greece’s stability support programme, in line with the commitments made by the Greek authorities.”
The statement concluded by saying ”the implementation of these reforms is crucial to further strengthening Greece’s economic recovery.”
It is noted that earlier this week, the European Commission decided to discontinue the position of ”Mission Chief” for Greece, following the successful conclusion of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) stability support program last summer.
Declan Costello, the current Mission Chief for Greece, will now fill the position of Deputy Director General at the EU’s Directorate‑General for Economic and Financial Affairs.
