A giant inflatable Monopoly Man has been seen floating off Psarou Beach on Mykonos since Sunday, making vacationers scratch their heads over what could have attracted him there.
“Rich Uncle Pennybags,” the mascot of the classic board game Monopoly, has been happily floating off Mykonos, appropriately holding a bottle of expensive champagne all the while.
The arrival of Mr. Monopoly on the cosmopolitan island is on the occasion of a large party organized by Mykonos’ most famous beach bar and restaurant, which will take place on Monday night.
The party is in honor of Alec Monopoly, the famous New York graffiti artist whose work is inspired by the emblematic board game figure. Alec Andon – his real name – also depicts other icons of pop culture.
Alec Monopoly, who is always photographed with his hand, or a mask, covering his mouth, has produced works in the urban environments in Miami, and Los Angeles, as well as in Europe, Mexico and Asia.
Monopoly uses a variety of materials and techniques in his works, such as sprays, stencils and even newspapers.
Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg, Iggy Azalea, Adrien Brody and Seth Rogen are among the artists who have bought Monopoly’s works.
