One Dead After Tram Hits Pedestrian in Alimos, Attica

A disturbing accident took place on Wednesday afternoon in Attica’s southern suburb of Alimos, as a man and his goddaughter were attempting to make their way to a beach there.
A railway vehicle belonging to Athens’ tram network hit and killed the sixty-one-year old man, adjacent to the Costa Del Sol (Akti tou Heliou) Beach in Alimos.
The unfortunate man was heading toward the beach while holding his nine-year old goddaughter by the hand.
The victim was attempting to cross a street to get to the beach, but didn’t see the tram coming at him and his goddaughter until the last moment. The tram had been destined for the port of Piraeus.
The tram hit the man, causing immediate fatal injuries to him, but according to witnesses,  the man managed to push the little girl away at the last possible moment, which saved her life.
The tram passed just centimeters away from the girl, who did not suffer any injuries whatsoever.
Ambulances and police officers rushed to the site of the terrible accident and were on the scene immediately.
