Tourists and residents in Corfu’s Moraitika region couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw a massive, navy blue and white luxury yacht approaching their local beach on Sunday.
One gentleman, surrounded by other swimmers who turned out to be members of his personal security team, was seen making his way toward their beach from the stunning vessel, which was anchored nearby.
It was determined later that the gentleman was Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, the former prime minister and foreign minister of Qatar.
The ultra-wealthy Qatari man was simply spending a bit of his summer vacation in the Ionian Sea.
According to observers, Al Thani was also spotted enjoying local delicacies in a restaurant on Corfu on Friday, so Sunday was not the first time he had left his yacht to visit the island.
Completed in 2008, the “Al Mirqab” is one of the largest motor yachts ever constructed in the entire world.
It is known to have a series of lavish amenities, and up to 55 crew members can be on board when the yacht hosts guests.
The motor yacht can accommodate up to 24 individuals in the most luxurious possible surroundings, and there are two additional VIP suites on board as well, for those extra-special guests.
According to reports, the yacht is based out of Greece the majority of the time; while it is not being used, it is docked in its berth at a marina in Athens’ coastal suburb of Faliro.
