A large flock of graceful, beautiful rose flamingos was spotted on Tuesday off Greeceā€™s town of Nea Kios, in the northeastern Peloponnesian Peninsula.
Tourists and people from the local area spotted the huge birds arriving in their town and rushed to take photographs of these beautiful creatures against the stunning backdrop of the town and its mountainous terrain.
The birds are known to use Nea Kios and its nearby marshes as an intermediate stop before they continue their long autumnal migration route to the south.
Rose flamingos exist in fragmented populations across Africa, Western Asia, Europe and Central America.
According to the EUā€™s most recent statistics, the current population of rose flamingos in the nations of the EU is between 14,000 to 29,000.

This is not the first time these beautiful birds have appeared in the broader area of Argolis, however.
Rose flamingos also appeared in Nafplio and Nea Kios in August of last year, making their way through the local marshes, resting and eating before flying off to continue their sojourn to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
The area of Nea Kios in Argolis, located in the Argolic Gulf, offers the perfect conditions to the large birds which desperately need a few days of rest and sustenance before resuming their annual migration.
