The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is now offering 50 high school students from Greece the opportunity to spend a semester abroad as part of a new international exchange program.
The SNF’s new “Global Citizen Scholarship Program,” which is part of the American Field Service’s (AFS) Intercultural Programs, aims to give Greek students experience in developing cross-cultural literacy and language fluency.
The participants will be selected from lower-income and underserved communities, who could otherwise not afford such an experience.
According to the SNF, “International exchange can have significant impacts for professionals and academics, but for people the age of secondary school students, an international exchange experience can have a profoundly transformative effect, with positive downstream consequences over the course of a lifetime.”
The SNF is providing support for a three-year pilot exchange program, and the AFS hopes to continue the program after its initial phase concludes.
