Eighty-one-year-old Anastasia Windsurfer to Enter Guinness Book of World Records (video)

Anastasia Windsurfer said she was going to do it and she did!
She crossed 18 nautical miles of sea from Skala, Kefalonia to Kyllini located in the Peloponnese on her windsurf. It took her 6 hours non-stop.
Her successful attempt will enter the Guinness Book of World Records as she is the only 81-year-old windsurfer. She has been preparing for this day for 40 years.
Anastasia Gerolymatou considers herself very lucky as she still has dreams. Every morning, when she gets up her first thought of the day, is: “I wonder what the weather will be like today”.
She has been sailing the seas of Greece and abroad and says the experience of sailing alone on the sea is unique. She feels like a seagull that waits for the sweet breeze to take it far away.
“The vastness of the sea is so sweet, so beautiful. There is so much magic that I cannot describe it,” she said speaking about encounters with dolphins, whales and the rock formations of the sea.
“The Greek seas have great differences from the rest. On the Atlantic Ocean, you do not see any signs along the route and I considered them wild and bland sea”, she added.

She makes bread in her stone oven, she gathers the olives from her trees and she keeps in touch with all her relatives who are far away. But, she says “what can I do…my mind is always thinking of the open sea. This is the only place where I am myself”.
Supporting her in her attempt are her family and friends, as well as an experienced team, while her message is that “age is just a number,” provided you have a goal that you believe in, you want, and you are willing to train on a daily basis towards.
