The Greek Coast Guard and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex launched a rescue operation on Monday afternoon to locate a boat carrying roughly 80 migrants and refugees in waters to the south of the Peloponnese.
The boat is believed to be in waters east of the Greek island of Antikythera.
A person who claimed that he was aboard the boat called 112, the European emergency number, saying that the boat was experiencing difficulties and might sink.
A Greek Coast Guard offshore patrol ship and four other vessels are participating in the search at the present time. A Frontex aircraft is also heading toward the area.
Northeasterly winds of approximately 5 Beaufort are currently predominating in the area.
