Clashes between migrants and police broke out on Wednesday at the notoriously overcrowded migrant camp called Moria on Greece’s Lesvos Island.
According to local media, the clashes began when a brawl erupted between different migrant groups after a protest was staged by unaccompanied children at the facility.
The approximately 300 underage migrants are complaining of conditions prevailing at the camp and are demanding their immediate transfer from Moria to another refugee facility on the mainland.
Police intervened and used tear gas to break up the brawl between the groups of migrants.
Officials and aid workers on Monday launched an emergency operation to evacuate 1,400 migrants from the overcrowded camp as numbers of arrivals on the island continue to climb.
