A large fire broke out in Lagonissi, southernĀ Attica, not far from the Greek capital city of Athens on Friday afternoon.
The country’s fire service has already sent 42 men with nineteen vehicles, two aircraft, four helicopters and the Specialized Department of Fire Brigades (METPE) to coordinate the firefighting efforts.

According to the mayor of Saronis, all residents who live in the area above the Grand Resort Lagonissi hotel have been ordered to evacuate their houses as a precaution.
The area is now covered in thick smoke and traffic along Athens-Cape Sounion Avenue has been suspended near the hotel.
For the time being, there is no evacuation order for the Grand Resort Lagonissi hotel itself.
