A technical agreement for the patrolling of North Macedonian airspace by Greek fighter jets was signed on Monday in Thessaloniki.
The agreement was signed by the General Christos Christodoulou, Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, and Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, Chief of Defense for the Republic of North Macedonia.
The Greek main opposition party SYRIZA’s Shadow Defense Minister Thodoris Dritsas called the signing of the agreement “extremely important,” and said that “the message of this technical agreement is historic, in both substance and symbolism,” he noted.
“The implementation of the Prespa Agreement accelerates positive developments in the region of southeastern Europe and beyond,” he added. The Prespa Agreement was signed in 2018 by former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of the SYRIZA party.
