Greece Officially Condemns Turkish Military Offensive in Syria

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens

Greece’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Thursday afternoon in which it expresses the country’s condemnation of Turkey’s decision to conduct military operations in northern Syria.

”Greece fully supports the position of the European Union, and condemns Turkey’s new unilateral military action on the territory of a sovereign state and calls for an immediate end to military operations in northeast Syria,” the Greek statement began.
”Operations that violate international law are undermining the stability of the region and jeopardize efforts by the United Nations to resolve the Syrian crisis,” the Foreign Ministry noted.
Expressing fears about a potential new wave of refugees into Europe and Turkey’s declared intention to enforce massive movements of people, the Greek Ministry said that ”forced movements of people in Syrian territory, and forced demographic change, are a direct violation of international law and bring back very sad memories.”
The Greek ministry reiterated its position that ”Turkey is being held accountable to the international community for the potential humanitarian consequences of its operations in Syria.”
Earlier today, President Erdogan threatened the entire EU with millions of more refugees in case Europe declares his recent actions in Syria as a military occupation.
