More than 130 Refugees and Migrants Saved off Astypalaia and Samos This Weekend

A vessel of Frontex, the EU’s coast guard and border agency, located and rescued this weekend eighty-one migrants and refugees that were on a dinghy in the sea region off the coast of Samos.
At the same time, more than fifty other refugees and migrants were spotted off the coast of Astypalaia, and were then transferred to Kos.
The foreign nationals found near Samos were transferred to the Malagari port on the island while a 22-year-old man, allegedly the trafficker and the boat driver, was arrested.
The refugees and migrants off the coast of Astypalaia called 112, the European emergency service before a Frontex vessel transferred them to the nearby island of Kos, where an organized refugee and migrant camp exists.
The new arrivals are indicative of the increased numbers of people who have been crossing from Turkey’s shores to Greek islands over the last several months.
