Law Associations Establish National Committee to Reclaim Parthenon Sculptures

Presidents of all Bar Associations of Greece formed recently a National Committee to reclaim the Parthenon Sculptures, the Athens Bar Association said in an official statement on Friday.
Their aim is to assist the country’s efforts to repatriate the priceless artifacts that are currently held by the British Museum in London.
In their statement, the group said that in recognition of the national dimension of the effort and the need for the greatest possible contribution to the cause, they had issued a call to a total of 58 agencies in Greece – including universities, unions, and scientists – to assign representatives to the committee.
Because of the fact that a large number of committee members already exist, an executive council will be established to coordinate the actions of the committee and implement them.
At the same time, a group of specialist lawyers will also be formed to supply necessary legal support in the country’s efforts to achieve this national goal.
