Weather Front ”Eteocles” to Bring Heavy Storms and More Snow to Greece

A new wintry weather front, dubbed “Eteocles,” is expected to affect Greece starting on Friday night, bringing rainstorms, heavy snow at higher altitudes, and gale-force winds to the nation.

Only a few days after the previous storm ”Dido” brought heavy snowfall and rain to many parts of the country, ”Eteocles” is expected to affect primarily western and northern parts of the country.

Very strong winds blowing up to 9-10 on the Beaufort scale and heavy snowfall is expected beginning late at night on Friday, the ”Meteo” weather service of the Athens National Observatory said on Friday.

Extremely strong winds of up to 10 on the Beaufort scale will affect the central and southern Aegean Sea on Saturday

The cold front is linked with an extensive and particularly intense atmospheric disturbance which traveled over the United Kingdom on Thursday night and is currently moving rapidly in a southeasterly direction.

The weather front which affected Britain will quickly cross the barrier of the Alps, forming a second low-pressure front over the Adriatic Sea, northwest of Greece.

This new low front will bring the weather system “Eteocles” to the country.

Meteorologists underscored that, even though the new cold front will be short in duration, lasting approximately only one day, it will be very intense until it moves off toward the eastern Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus.

Western and northern parts of the country will see heavy rainfall on Saturday morning. Blizzards are expected in Northwestern parts of Greece which are at higher altitudes.
