Winter storm ”Zenobia” might have begun to recede on Tuesday; however, a new cold snap is expected in the coming days, this time bringing more thunderstorms, freezing temperatures and snowfall to Greece.
Most of the country began its New Year’s Eve with sunny and cold weather.
However, the weather still remains unsettled in the areas which were most affected by the storm ”Zenobia,” including the regions of Phthiotis, Boeotia, Euboea and Attica.
The island of Crete and the Dodecanese island chain will also be affected by rain and snow on December 31.
The lowest temperature on Tuesday was recorded in Barico, Florina, where thermometers dropped to -10°C (14 degrees F).
On New Year’s Day and on January 2, thunderstorms, rainfall and snow will affect areas on Crete, in the eastern parts of the mainland and in the northern and central Aegean Sea.
Snow is expected to fall in the central and southern parts of the eastern mainland, including areas in Attica and Euboea.
Temperatures will remain low, and frost will be spotted in most parts of the central and northern parts of the country.
Temperatures are expected to rise again beginning on January 3, but the cold will still be present, at least during the early hours of the mornings.
