American actress and singer Rita Wilson thanked Greece on Friday for granting honorary citizenship to her husband Tom Hanks, earlier in December 2019.
Wilson expressed her gratitude to the country of her ancestors in a post on Instagram, saying ”Thank you, Greece, for the Honorary Citizenship along with Tom Hanks. We truly are honored!!!”

Her post was followed by a photograph of her on a boat, with the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea behind her as a backdrop.
Just one day earlier, Hanks himself shared a photograph, probably taken on the island of Delos, saying that he was beginning the year 2020 as an honorary citizen of Greece.
It is noted that Prokopios Pavlopoulos, the President of Greece signed the official papers marking the honorary naturalization of the famous American actor and philhellene in December.
The veteran Hollywood star is married to Rita Wilson, who is of Greek descent on her mother’s side.
Hanks has also been among the faithful of the Greek Orthodox Church for many years now and belongs to the parish of St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles.
