Athens International Airport Smashes Another Passenger Traffic Record for 2019

2019 was yet another record-breaking year for the Greek capital’s international airport in regard to the increase in passenger traffic numbers over the previous year.
According to official data released recently by the airport’s authorities, passenger traffic through Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport represented an increase of 5.3 percent in December over the same month in 2018, totaling 1.64 million passengers.
International passengers for the same period were up 10.9 percent while domestic traffic fell 6.7 percent compared with the same month last year.
The entire year of 2019 saw the airport’s passenger traffic reach yet another new record, totaling 25.57 million passengers compared with the 24.13 million passengers who passed through the facility in 2018.
This was courtesy of a substantial 8.6-percent annual increase in international passengers.
The number of domestic passengers traveling through Eleftherios Venizelos increased slightly, by 0.3 percent annually.
The total number of flights in 2019 was 225,628, up by 3.9 percent compared to 2018, with domestic flights seeing an increase of 4.1 percent and international flights climbing by 3.8 percent.
