A Pakistani couple was discovered dead in their home in downtown Athens’ Metaxourgeio district in the early hours of Friday. It is thought that they most likely passed away as a result of inhaling fumes from a gas heater.
The couple was found dead by their three children, aged 11, 17 and 19 years old, who were in another room when they realized something was wrong and went to check on their parents.
The children quickly called for an ambulance when they realized their parents were lying on their bed in an unconscious state, but the couple was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital shortly thereafter.
A coroner is expected to determine the exact cause of death of the two parents, although a gas heater in their bedroom is seen as the most likely culprit.
