Greece Condemns Tearing Up of Turkish Flag by Neo-Nazi MEP

The Greek Foreign Ministry issued a strong statement on Thursday condemning the Greek neo-nazi Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Giannis Lagos, who ripped the Turkish flag apart during an unfathomable speech he made on Thursday before the Parliament.
Greece condemns in the most categorical manner any act of insulting a national symbol, and in this case the national symbol of Turkey,” the statement reads.
”The unacceptable actions of the neo-Nazis are well away from the Greek and European traditions and are an attempt to self-publicize the subversive Golden Dawn party, which the Greek society has put out of parliament,” the Greek ministry noted.
”The neo-Nazis only represent themselves,” the statement concluded.
The action of the currently Independent Neo-nazi Parliamentarian, who once was a prominent member of Greece’s Golden Dawn party, has sparked widespread negative reaction.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu posted several very angry tweets after the event, since the Turkish people — like nearly everyone else from any country in the world — are very sensitive when it comes to their national symbol.

In a tweet written in English, Cavusoglu said that ”These racist minds know better than anybody how we crash and kick out to the sea those who dare attack our glorious flag,” calling Lagos a ”clown.”
There is a video of Lagos’ speech online showing the moment he tore the Turkish flag apart, but Greek Reporter chooses not to show such videos, which would only damage the image of Greece’s and give further publicity to this action.
