Influenza Has Killed 38 People in Greece So Far This Season

Seventeen people died in Greece this week from the annual wintertime outbreak of influenza, raising the total number of flu fatalities to 38, Greece’s National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Thursday.
In its weekly epidemiological report, the EODY noted that 27 of those who succumbed were hospitalized in intensive care units, while eleven were not.
The age range of those who have died from influenza so far this season was from 4 years all the way up to 91 years of age.
Seventeen of those who passed away were men, while 21 were women.
Out of the 38 people who succumbed to the disease, 36 of them belonged to groups characterized as in ”high danger” of contracting it and who should have received influenza vaccinations.
Unfortunately, only fourteen of the flu victims in this group had actually received their seasonal flu vaccine.
A total of 151 serious, laboratory-confirmed, cases of influenza have been recorded in Greece so far this season.
