Greece’s Olympic gymnastics champion in the still rings, Eleftherios Petrounias, is ready to fight the battle of his life to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan later this year.
Petrounias uploaded two photographs to his personal Facebook page from Melbourne, Australia, adding his comments ”I’m ready, the team is ready, two days left.”
Petrounias will compete in the World Cup Gymnastics Melbourne event from February 20 to 23, where he will try to win the first of the three consecutive victories he will need to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Petrounias needs to win in Australia, then in Baku, Azerbaijan and Doha in Qatar in March in order to be able to travel to Japan as part of the Greek national Olympic team there.
Petrounias, 29, is currently the 2016 Olympic champion, as well as the World Champion in 2018, 2017 and 2015, and a five-time European medalist on the still rings.
