Volunteers from Greece’s animal welfare organization ”ARCTUROS” launched an operation recently to save a trapped female wolf from a house’s iron fence in a village near Thessaloniki.
The unfortunate, petrified animal had most likely been chased by dogs and became trapped in its attempt to jump over the fence.
The incident took place in the village of Kastania in the county of Thessaloniki.
The Arcturos Emergency Response Team rushed to the scene and, along with the assistance of the Veterinary School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, began the operation to sedate and then rescue the animal.
The rescuers named the wolf Elizabeth, which proved to be particularly fortunate in all of her misfortune.
Her wound did not affect any of the vital organs of her body, something that would in all likelihood have caused her death.
After being sedated, the volunteers of ARCTUROS carefully removed the wolf from the fence and the veterinarian was then able to treat her wounds.
Elizabeth was later transferred to the ARCTUROS Veterinary Clinic in Aetos, Florina where her wounds were stitched up.
Her subsequent medical examination showed no other problems, so the animal will be able to return to her original territory after recovering for approximately one month.
Η επιχείρηση διάσωσης της λύκαινας στον Καστανά
Αίσια έκβαση είχε η χθεσινή περιπέτεια ενός θηλυκού λύκου στον Καστανά λίγα χιλιόμετρα έξω από τη Θεσσαλονίκη. Σύμφωνα με όλες τις ενδείξεις η άτυχη λύκαινα κυνηγήθηκε από σκυλιά στην περιοχή και αποκλείστηκε στην αυλή σπιτιού. Στην προσπάθειά της να διαφύγει προσπάθησε ανεπιτυχώς να πηδήξει την καγκελόπορτα με αποτέλεσμα μία από τις λόγχες να καρφωθεί στο σώμα της και να μείνει εγκλωβισμένη εκεί!Η Ομάδα Άμεσης Επέμβασης (ΟΑΕ) του ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟΥ μετέβη στο σημείο έχοντας τη συνδρομή της Κτηνιατρικής Σχολής του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης.Η Ελισάβετ, όπως ονομάστηκε η λύκαινα, στάθηκε ιδιαίτερα τυχερή μέσα στην ατυχία της κι αυτό διότι το τραύμα αν και διαμπερές δεν πείραξε κανένα ζωτικό όργανό της το οποίο θα προκαλούσε πιθανότατα και τον θάνατό της. Αφού αναισθητοποιήθηκε, η ΟΑΕ του ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟΥ την απεγκλώβισε από την λόγχη και η κτηνίατρος περιποιήθηκε το τραύμα. Ο εγκλωβισμός της λύκαινας διήρκεσε 6-7 ώρες με αποτέλεσμα να χάσει αρκετό αίμα στο διάστημα αυτό.Στη συνέχεια μεταφέρθηκε στο Κτηνιατρείο του ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟΥ στον Αετό Φλώρινας όπου και έγινε συρραφή του τραύματος. Από την εξέτασή της δεν διαπιστώθηκε κάποιο άλλο πρόβλημα κι έτσι όλα δείχνουν ότι η Ελισάβετ θα μπορέσει να επιστρέψει στο φυσικό περιβάλλον έπειτα από την ανάρρωσή της σε έναν περίπου μήνα.
