Cypriot Health authorities on Tuesday ordered a ban on mass gatherings of people — including churches — after two cases of Covid-19 coronavirus were recorded on the island.
Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou said that the ban, which will be in effect until March 31, is meant to target events and other gatherings involving more than 75 people.
“All mass events, assemblies, concerts, and parades in public venues are cancelled,” Ioannou said.
Replying to a question, Ioannou clarified that the ban applies to all Church gatherings of more than 75 people. He added that he would inform the Archbishop of Cyprus regarding his decision.
The Cypriot government also decided that a number of schools in Nicosia will remain closed for three days and football games will be held behind closed doors.
Additionally, four crossing points to the occupied north of Cyprus will remain closed until the cabinet’s next meeting, next week.
