One of Greece’s most prominent politicians and former Speaker of the House, Filippos Petsalnikos died on Friday at the age of 70.
There is still no official information about the reason for his death, but he had reportedly been facing serious health issues for some time.

He had served as a Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, and of Public Order, and Justice, before being elected as President of the Parliament in 2009 under the government of George Papandreou.
Petsalnikos served as Speaker until April of 2012.
In recent years, he had been a member of the small Movement of Democratic Socialists party, which is part of the Movement for Change (KINAL) party.
