Greece Shuts Down Beaches as Thousands Defy Coronavirus "Stay at Home" Plea

Thousands of Greeks aided by warm weather on Saturday defied the authorities who called for people to stay at home to prevent the spread of coronavirus, by converging to the beaches.
At an organized beach at Asteras Vouliagmeni, south of Athens, security guards turned people away due to overcrowding.
Late on Saturday, Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis ordered authorities to close all organized beaches and ski resorts.
In a message on twitter Mitsotakis said: “I just ordered all the beaches and ski resorts to be closed tomorrow. The situation is serious and requires everyone to act responsibly. We must avoid public places with too many people.”

Earlier health authorities announced that two more people have died from coronavirus, bringing the total fatalities in the country to three. They both had serious underlying health problems, the Health Ministry said.
Total cases in the country have jumped to 228, with 38 new cases recorded on Saturday.
