In his second address to the nation in just a few days, Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a series of new measures related to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic on Thursday afternoon.
PM Mitsotakis said that Athens will be significantly helped by the recently announced €750-billion ”Pandemic Emergency Purchase Programme” from the European Central Bank (ECB).
The Greek premier announced that every employee, whether he or she worked for a company that had to close, or is still in operation but has been affected by the pandemic, will receive a one-timepayment of €800, covering the period between March 15 and April 30.
Additionally, self-employed people and those who have already been let go will receive those monies.
Regarding the Easter bonus, which is obligatory in the private sector in Greece, Prime Minister Mitsotakis said that it will be paid as usual.
This means that all private businesses will have to pay the 50-percent Easter bonus on top of April’s salaries to their employees. However, this will happen at a later stage, potentially in June.
The Premier also announced that all medical staff and those who work for the country’s Civil Protection will also receive the Easter bonus this year, paid by the state.
Mitsotakis said that the country is also boosting the National Health System with thousands of new staff and a great deal of new equipment.
He additionally announced a new package deal worth 10 billion euros which will assist the economy in a concrete way, with its details soon to be presented to the public.
”Stay at home, stay positive, stay determined, and stay healthy,” were Mitsotakis’ concluding words for the Greek public.
