Greek Metropolitan Arrested for Defying Coronavirus Liturgy Ban

Greek police on Saturday took to custody Kythera Metropolitan Seraphim for performing a divine liturgy in church despite the government ban as a measure for the coronavirus pandemic.
The Kythera Metropolitan was arrested for opening the doors of the Church of the Crucified in Kythera on Friday after ringing the bells and calling the faithful to gather for the divine liturgy.
Upon his arrest, Seraphim claimed that he did not receive the circular sent by Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos regarding the ban of church gatherings and religious services.
The Kythera Metropolitan appeared at the town police station where charges were filed against him and was released on probation.
