Health authorities in Greece announced on Thursday that four more people had died from the COVID-19 coronavirus and 71 new cases have been recorded across the country since yesterday.
The total number of cases in Greece has now risen to 892 and the death toll to 26.
Sotiris Tsiodras, the Health Ministry spokesperson for the Covid19 coronavirus outbreak, said that Greece is still in the middle, if not at the beginning, of this fight.
The spokesman added that the fatalities were comprised primarily of male patients.
He also said that the situation in Italy and Spain continues to be especially worrisome, something that has not been experienced so far in Greece.
However, Tsidras stated that if Greece stops following its tough measures, then the number of cases could rise significantly.
On his behalf, Greece’s Deputy Minister for Civil Protection Nikos Chardalias praised the vast majority of Greek society, which has been obediently following the strict curfew and other measures.
Chardalias noted that this new reality is something that no one could have even imagined just a few months ago, but, as he said, ”sometimes reality goes much further than the wildest science-fiction films.”
