A woman living in the refugee facility of Ritsona on the island of Euboea (Evia) has tested positive for the coronavirus after going to an Athens hospital to give birth two days earlier.
The information was made public by Greece’s Migration and Asylum Ministry sources on Tuesday, as the state-run AMNA news agency reported.
According to the same report, the results of a blood test on the newborn infant are due out soon, while the baby’s father has been cleared of any coronavirus infection.
Teams from Greece’s National Health System and its Migration Ministry have now traveled to Ritsona, while authorities painstakingly trace the couple’s movements to find out whether the woman had been infected in the facility or after her admission into the hospital.
Isolation areas have already been created at the Ritsona migrant and refugee camp for the housing of suspected coronavirus victims.
