The Archdiocese of Athens issued a statement on Saturday morning, informing the public that the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos II has been hospitalized and will undergo a scheduled surgery.
Ieronymos went to the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center of Athens on Saturday to undergo a surgery where doctors give him a cardiac pacemaker.
The treating physicians of Ieronymos advised the Archbishop to go ahead with the surgery.
The Archbishop of Athens is 82 years old and has been leading the Orthodox Christian Church of Greece since 2008.
