Afghan Migrant Kills Teenager in Moria Camp on Lesvos Island

File photo

A 16-year-old Afghan teenager was stabbed and killed early Wednesday morning by a 20-year-old Afghan man a short distance from the north gate of the Moria Reception and Identification Centre (RIC) on the Greek island of Lesvos.
The 16-year-old was rushed to Mytilene Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The victim was part of an Afghan family of six living in a cabin outside the main camp, where thousands of refugees and migrants have found temporary refuge.
Violent clashes subsequently broke out within the areas in Moria set aside for juveniles after the incident, during which four underage asylum-seekers were hurt and taken to hospital, where two of them were found by doctors to have serious injuries.
There is still no information about the reasons behind this new tragedy in the Moria camp.
