Coronavirus Update: Total 98 Dead, 2,114 Confirmed Cases in Greece


The Greek Ministry of Health announced on Sunday evening that five people had succumbed to COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours, bringing the nation’s total fatalities to 98, while 33 new cases were reported.
According to the daily update by the Ministry of Health spokesperson Sotiris Tsiodras, 2,114 Greek citizens have been infected since the beginning of the pandemic, 33 of whom were diagnosed in the past 24 hours.
At the same time, five people lost their lives in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of dead in Greece to 98. Twenty-six of them were women (26.5 percent) and the rest were men.
The median age of the deceased is 72 years, and 88.8 percent of the victims had an underlying disease and/or were of ages 70 and older.
Of the 2,114 cases of coronavirus infection in the country, 542 (25.6 percent) are considered to be related to traveling abroad and 819 (38.7 percent) are related to an already-known case.
At the moment, 76 people are intubated; the average age of these people is 68 years. Only fifteen of them  (19.7 percent) are women and the rest are men, while 80.3 percent have an underlying disease or are over 70 years of age.
In the meantime, 15 patients have been released from ICU.
So far, a total of 42,261 clinical samples have been tested across the nation of Greece.
Despite the clear successes experienced by Greece as a result of its coronavirus-fighting campaign, authorities are worried about the spread of COVID-19 in the Roma settlement in Larissa. On Sunday the total of people infected reached 31, up ten from Saturday. The Roma settlement and its surrounding area have been put under quarantine for 14 days.
