Twelve Coronavirus Cases Detected at Greek Nursing Home

A nursing home in Nea Makri, east of Athens, was placed under quarantine late on Sunday as ten pensioners and two employees tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.
“Following the results of 122 samples of residents and staff, by order of Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias, the retirement home was placed in quarantine by the Greek Police last night,” the Ministry’s announcement stated.
The pensioners were transferred to Sotiria Hospital in Athens, which has been designated a referral hospital for the virus.
Nursing homes are considered as high risk factors for the transmission of the coronavirus due to the concentration of vulnerable people who in addition have chronic health problems.
According to the latest update by Greek Ministry of Health spokesperson Sotiris Tsiodras, 2,114 people in the country have been infected since the beginning of the pandemic and 98 have died.
