Holy Saturday was marked by violent events on the island of Chios, and more specifically inside and around the VIAL refugee and migrant camp.
The clashes began when a 47-year old Iraqi woman was declared dead, after a few days of suffering from a fever. A coronavirus test was conducted, but it turned out negative.
However, it is still unclear why the unfortunate woman passed away.
According to information from the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency, the subsequent violent clashes at the camp destroyed the facilities of the European Asylum Service (EASO), as well as a canteen inside the camp, and tents and many containers where people were accommodated.
The VIAL camp is one of the largest refugee and migrant camps in Greece, where thousands of asylum seekers are now housed.
