Entire Greek Town in Quarantine After 150 Migrants Infected with Coronavirus


Greece’s Deputy Minister for Civil Protection Nikos Chardalias announced on Tuesday that the town of Kranidi is now quarantined and under strict lockdown after a total of 150 refugees and migrants tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Authorities tested a total of 470 asylum seekers, mostly from Africa, who are staying in a hotel which has been designated as temporary accommodations for migrants and asylum seekers.
Health officials conducted mass tests after a 28-year-old pregnant woman from Somalia had tested positive for the virus on Monday.
Under the new, mug more draconian measures, no movement of people will be allowed inside the entire town between 8 o’clock in the evening and 8 o’clock in the morning for the next fourteen days.
The elderly and those individuals who belong to vulnerable groups are strongly advised not to leave their houses for any reason for the next fourteen days.
Additionally, people in Kranidi will only be able to leave their houses only to visit a doctor or pharmacy and to buy food, and only in case these are not able to be delivered to their doors.
Kranidi, located in Argolis, on the Peloponnesian Peninsula, is part of the municipality of Ermionis.
It has a total population of approximately 10,000 people.
Earlier on Tuesday, two more COVID-19 patients died in Greece, raising the death toll to 119. One of the dead is a 35-year-old man without any underlying health problems. He is the youngest victim in the country to have died after becoming infected with the coronavirus.
