Greek Development and Investment Minister Adonis Georgiadis said on Wednesday that Greece will begin mass production of surgical masksĀ to fulfill its own needs within a few days.
Speaking with the ERT, Open and Alpha TV networks, Georgiadis confirmed that machines which are used to produce large quantities of surgical masks arrived from China on Tuesday.
The production of the masks will begin on April 25 and will be carried out by a large Greek company.
The masks will be produced in two different regions, in Larissa and Thrace, andĀ Georgiadis said that the production will amount to approximately nine million masks per calendar month.
Georgiadis explained that the relaxation of the current containment measures will be taken “step by step” while noting that discipline will be imperative throughout the process. ”As the virus acts unexpectedly, we should not relax,” the Minister warned.
He also explained that until a vaccine is found and a large part of the population is immune to the coronavirus, social distancing will continue to be essential and people will not be able to return completely to their old way of life.
