At least twenty-eight new coronavirus cases were recorded in a private clinic in the municipality of Peristeri in Athens, Greece on Thursday.
The tests were conducted after a patient of the clinic named ”Taxiarchae” showed coronavirus symptoms.
More than 100 patients of the clinic were tested and several media reports from Greek news websites suggest that 29 of them were positive.
According to deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Chardalias, eleven of the cases are members of the medical staff of the private clinic, and thirteen others are patients with serious diseases. Four additional patients tested positive but do not have any preexisting medical condition.
The clinic is now quarantined and no one is allowed to enter the building. Fort five individuals who are connected   to the clinic are waiting for the results of their tests.
During his daily briefing, Greece’s  leading epidemiologist Sotiris Tsiodras announced a total of 55 new cases across the country. The total death toll in Greece now stands at 125.
Tsiodras also said that he is saddened by the fact that some people (referring to the clinic) showed recklessness, causing a new, localized outbreak.
Police Officers in Quarantine
Earlier on Thursday, it was made public that fifteen police officers from the Athens Police Headquarters will be quarantined for two weeks because they had come in contact recently with an Afghan migrant who tested positive.
It is noted that the Hellenic Police said that these officers took all the necessary social-distancing measures; however, they will have to be quarantined as a precautionary measure.
