Two Orphaned Bears Released Into the Wild in Northern Greece

One-year-old orphaned bears, called Bradley and Cooper, were released into the wild on Saturday after being trained by wildlife experts in how to make it on their own.
The 16-month-old yearlings were tagged and released by the environmental group Arcturos, which runs a bear sanctuary in Florina, in northern Greece.

Bradley and Cooper were found starving and undernourished near a sheep pen in the village of Oinoi, Kozani, last year.
Bradley now weighs 80kg and Cooper weighs 67 kg.
The two bears are now sixteen months old and, before returning to the wild, they were examined by Arcturos vets and fitted with radar collars which were placed around their necks.
The first signal from the radar showed that the two bears’ movements are encouraging and each one has followed its own path. Bradley has covered a great distance while Cooper did not go very far from the release point, but continues to stay in forested areas.
The two bears’ movements are being closely monitored, especially in the first crucial days after their release, and an emergency unit is on standby to intervene if either of the bears approaches inhabited areas.
