German airline Lufthansa announced on Friday that flights to Greece will recommence on May 18, almost two months after the Greek government banned incoming flights due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The German air carrier announced that flights from Frankfurt to Athens are scheduled on May 18, according to a report from Germany on Open TV.
Lufthansa flights from Munich to Athens will follow in May, while flights to Mallorca, Spain will take place in June.
The German airline also announced that another 80 of its air crafts will start flying again in June, in order to serve tourist destinations, after the company locked most of its fleet on the ground due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The group, which includes Swiss International Air Lines and Austrian Airlines, said it was meeting growing customer demand after easing restrictions in Germany and other countries.
“We sense a great desire and anticipation from the world to travel again. Hotels and restaurants are slowly opening up and in some cases visiting friends and relatives is allowed again,” said Lufthansa Executive Board Member, Harry Hohmeister. At the end of 2019, the group counted a fleet of 763 air crafts.
