Mykonos Locals Defy Coronavirus Ban and Throw Beach Party

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Mykonos was Greece’s bonafide party island. On Friday night, staying true to the spirit of the island, locals defied the order that allowed for small gatherings only and threw a big beach party, complete with DJ, drinks, and a bonfire.
The ban of free travel to the Greek islands due to the COVID-19 pandemic has not been lifted yet, so there are no tourists on Mykonos at the moment and all hospitality sector businesses are closed. Only people who own tourist businesses on the islands have been allowed to travel to specific destinations in order to make preparations for the tourist season.
Despite the ban of gatherings and the strict social distancing measures, about 100 people threw an “anti-coronavirus” party, according to Mykonos Live TV website.
Police were notified of the incident two hours after the party was in full swing and went to the spot to break the crowd, Mykonos Live TV reports.
