We are ready for dialogue with Greece on the Eastern Mediterranean issue, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu speaking at a forum on tourism on Saturday.
The statement came only one day after the Turkish official praised the agreement between Greece and Italy on the two countries exclusive economic zones and stressed that Turkey is looking forward to cooperate with Greece. Friday’s statement came during a joint press conference in Turkey with Cavusoglu’s Italian counterpart, Luigi Di Maio.
Speaking at the forum, Cavusoglu stressed that “there can be no agreement in the Eastern Mediterranean without Turkey” and added that “what we have not been able to explain in words, we now express with our actions. With our ships and our agreements. We did it yes, but do we want to continue to act unilaterally? No. We are ready for dialogue with everyone, including Greece.”
“Through dialogue and diplomacy, all issues can be resolved. Cooperation is better than excluding or disregarding the rights of others. It can be a culture of sharing. Of course, we hope that Greece will approach us with the same understanding. We will continue to exchange views on these issues in the near future,” the Turkish Foreign Minister further said.
