Former football player, coach and television commentator Nikos Alefantos passed away in Athens on Tuesday. He was 81 years of age.
Alefantos had managed several clubs in the Greek Super League, including Olympiacos during 2004. He also had brief spells leading AEK, PAOK and Larissa during his long football career.
During recent years, he worked as a football commentator for a private television channel. His outspoken views and frequent clashes with the press, not just about football, but also on political and social issues, elevated him to a cult figure in Greece.
