Freak Lightning Storm Lights Up Greek Sky

This timelapse video shows lightning off the coast of Artemida, east of Athens in the early hours of Tuesday. Storms have been hitting the area and the Athens National Observatory has recorded several thousand lightning strikes across the country since Monday.
Current conditions, with relatively cool temperatures in the upper atmosphere combined with high temperatures and humidity on the ground, are liable to generate strong summer storms in the days leading up to Thursday, the Observatory’s weather service meteo.gr forecasts.
These particular phenomena, which are expected to be most intense during the hottest hours of the day, may involve electrical activity, strong winds and hail, Meteo said. A number of areas will be affected, including Athens and the greater Attica region.
