The Greek government issued new, compulsory guidelines on Tuesday for hotels across the country in order to deal with possible Covid-19 cases as the nation opens up to tourism once again.
All hotels are now asked to create “safe rooms” or isolation areas for confirmed cases, in which the patient’s clinical condition does not require hospital care.
Authorities say that this temporary solution, which will be replaced soon by the creation of a network of “quarantine” hotels, allows for the safe opening of Greek tourism.
The guidelines stipulate that all accommodations having up to 10 rooms requires them to create one quarantine room, accommodations of up to 50 rooms requires two quarantine rooms and accommodations of more than 50 rooms requires a quarantine room equal to 3 percent of its total capacity.
Greece’s Minister of Tourism, Haris Theocharis, stated that “the safe resumption of Greek tourism is our first priority. An important step has been taken today to consolidate this sense of security. We are not complacent; we continue to focus on this goal every day. “
