After a three-month hiatus, tourism is expected to begin in Mykonos with the arrival of international travelers from countries including Spain, Switzerland, France and Austria.
The first nineteen flights that arrived in the popular tourist destination, in essence, kicked off the rest of the tourist season for the island.
According to information gathered by the Mykonos – Santorini – Aegean Islands Promo team, led by Ambassador HACC New York, Mykonos-based Costa Skagias, flights are scheduled to reach a total of 200 throughout the next two weeks.
A large percentage will be domestic flights, coming in from both Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as a number of travelers coming predominately from places including Italy, followed by France and Switzerland.
Due to the travel ban on account of the pandemic, this year’s “missing” flights include countries such as the UK, with slightly fewer ones coming in from Germany.
“Although less than one-third of the flights are expected to arrive on our island this year compared to last July, given the situation, it’s encouraging the fact that there are no significant differences in the origin of the flights from the corresponding period last year,” Skagias said.
“We look forward to seeing how the rest of the month evolves as well as August,” he added.
From hotels to restaurants and beach clubs, all businesses on the popular Cycladic island have implemented changes to ensure a safe season.

“We try to allow for a day after a guest departs and before the next guests arrive at our rooms, and when this is not possible we are using special cleaning products as well as a steam system to sterilise the rooms,” notes Alexandra Boura, an operations manager at the Harmony Boutique Hotel on Mykonos – one of the first hotels that opened on the island.
