Greece is closing its borders with Serbia as of Monday at 6 am, stopping Serbian citizens from entering, due to the surge of Covid-19 cases in the neighboring country.
The health authorities decision was expected because there has been a sudden increase of coronavirus spread in Serbia during the week.
The travel restriction will be valid until July 15. Until then, Serbians will be allowed to enter Greece only if there is an emergency. The situation will be reassessed on July 15.
The decision to close the border with Serbia was announced by Deputy Government Spokesperson Aristotelia Peloni.
According to her statement, “the government, in cooperation with experts, is closely monitoring and will continue to do so on a daily basis, the development of epidemiological cycles in the European Union and in the rest of the world.”
